Two El Paso business owners are getting top statewide awards next month from the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce.
The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce also will get the association’s best large Chamber of the Year award — the sixth time it’s won the state award in the last seven years, the chamber announced Thursday. The awards will be given at the Texas group’s annual convention next month in Austin.
Teresa Gandara, owner of Pencil Cup Office Products with her husband, Carlos Gandara, is Businesswoman of the Year for the statewide group of Hispanic chambers. Omar Veliz, owner of Veliz Construction, will get the Businessman of the Year award. State Rep. Cesar Blanco, D-El Paso, was named Government Hispanic Business Advocate of the Year, and Wells Fargo in El Paso was named Corporate Hispanic Business Advocate of the Year.
